Loose incense and resins
Incense grains are natural resins and gums: benzoin, frankincense, myrrh, opoponax, styrax, manna tears or mastic. Sold in 50 to 100 g sachets, they are burned on glowing charcoal; the product page states the origin and weight of each resin.
Light the charcoal in a resin burner set on a stable surface, wait until it is covered with white ash, then add a few grains. Ventilate the room, never touch the charcoal with bare hands and keep the resins in their closed sachet.
Each resin has its own character: frankincense is balsamic, myrrh more bitter, benzoin vanilla-like, opoponax warm and styrax smoky. A 100 g sachet covers several dozen sessions at one pinch per charcoal.
